“Life isn’t perfect when you follow Christ whole-heartedly; you will have trouble, Jesus says- it is pretty much guaranteed. But He has overcome the world. So take heart, keep on, fight the good fight, pray continuously and do not grow weary. There is nothing better than giving up everything and stepping into a passionate love relationship with God, the God of the universe who made galaxies, leaves, laughter, you and me.”—
The story of a Savior coming as an infant in Bethlehem is indeed astonishing, as astonishing an idea as the resurrection. That God chose to come into the world with flesh, flesh that would suffer, is strange and paradoxical, beautiful and foolish. Perhaps it is also wise beyond our comprehension. “For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.”
Though the word incarn is now used infrequently, it was once used medically, describing the flesh that grows over a wound. Applied to healing, the word refers to the recovery of wounded flesh due to the presence of new flesh. The Incarnation, the astonishing event Christians proclaim, the story that has inspired music, architecture, and hope, is God’s way of doing exactly that: Christ comes in flesh to cover our mortal wound. God comes near in body and in weakness to bring healing to weak and wounded bodies. This may seem a foolish mission, but to the blind who receive their sight, the lame who now walk, the diseased who are cleansed, the deaf who hear, the dead who are raised, and the poor who have good news brought to them, it is the most beautiful foolishness ever known.
My heart pounds when You touch me My eyes tear up when I hear Your voice My soul rejoices when Your Spirit lifts me My whole being is filled when I feel Your pleasure
But even if my emotion is not pretty I’ll choose to praise Your name Even if I’m angry with You I’ve gotta choose to lift You high Even if I don’t sense You around I’ll continue to worship who You are Even if my circumstances disappoint me I’ll put my faith in You
Because faith is more than a feeling It is based on what You have already given A love no man can ever give That’s defeated sin and death So blessed assurance! I know that Jesus is mine. I’ll shake off the physical trap And focus upon Your Heavenly Kingdom
This was placed on my heart to ask—-what’s behind your motives of your thoughts and actions? What is it that you are seeking? How are you trying to cover that loneliness that longing you feel—- do you believe it can be filled by a boyfriend, a girlfriend, weight loss and a makeover?—-well I am inclined to tell you—-you’re oh so very wrong.
What your heart longs for and soul aches for is a different kind of soul mate and an nontraditional makeover. You think it’s all these materialistic and physical things but it’s not. What you need is a true relationship with God. He will overflow in every empty place—and mind you I say this to you not as someone who has perfected this—-but I come to you because this is a fresh revelation on my heart.
I was just thinking to myself, these things—-the boyfriend, the head to toe makeover, this fashion and having this car and making this much money—-they will make me happy—-that will make my life better, add value to it—-but the love and acceptance I am looking for won’t be find in this world, it will be found in Christ.
Lastly, I want to end with some lyrics by Lecrae that are not only relevant but inspiring…
Suffer, yeah, do it for Christ, If you’re trying to figure out what to do with ya life, If you make a lot of money hope your doin’ it right, Because the money is God’s, you better steward it right, You stay focused, you ain’t got no ride, Your life ain’t wrapped up in what you drive, The clothes you wear, the job you work, The color your skin, nah you’re Christian first, People get it living for a job, Make a little money start living for a car, Get em a wife, a house, kids and a dog, Then they retire, they living high on the hog, But guess what? They didn’t ever really live at all, To live is Christ, and that’s Paul I recall, To die is gain and for Christ we give it all, He’s the treasure you’ll never find in a mall, See your money, your singleness, marriage, talents, your time, They were loaned you to show the world that Christ is divine, That’s why its Christ in my rhymes, That’s why its Christ all the time, See my whole world is built around Him, He’s the life in my lines, I refuse to waste my life, He’s too true to chase that ice, Here’s my gift and time, ‘cause I’m constantly tryna ta be used to praise the Christ, If He’s truly raised to life, Then this news should change your life , And by His grace you can put your faith in the place that rules your days and nights, YES!
I’m at CNY church service at COGS now. The passage we’re going through now is Ephesians 1: 1-14. And this touches on the controversy of predestination. I remember going through this during ocf bible study in 2009.
I believe that everyone is chosen and predestined to be our Father God’s sons and daughters. We were all made with the purpose of glorifying Him. But because of sin and our free will, we can stray away from this calling. Thus our God is fair, and He has not forgotten the people.
Disclaimer: these are just my thoughts, it may not be biblical fact. Best to do further bible study into the entire context and its Greek wording.
But it’s hard work. My family has been kept busy since dawn till the dishes are washed clean at the end of it all.
My fingers still smell weird after chopping garlic and chilli, grating carrots and white radish, cutting vegetables, arranging food for the steamboat.
Yet I’m the one who probably did the least in the kitchen. My sister, grandmother, aunts, mom and Mimi did most of the work.
CNY is fun though (except for the annoying repetitive “dong dong dong qiang” song blasted throughout everywhere).
CNY is frequently linked to prosperity. Mostly in health and finance. But I thought, hey, I think there’s one more prosperity that means more than just our own physical health and financial health. Our spiritual health. And so I pray that everyone will spiritually prosper this new lunar year, getting a new touch and a fresh understanding of our Father God. May our focus evermore be on Him alone.
